Who we are
The research team from the Hochgebirgsklinik Davos is an interprofessional team including sports scientists and clinicians, study nurses with diverse backgrounds.
Based at one of Switzerland’s leading hospital for rehabilitation, which has its main focus on exercise-based cardiac rehabilitation, the team draws on its diverse backgrounds to benefit from a broad range of perspectives and expertise.
This diversity fosters collaboration across disciplines, strengthens the scientific quality of projects, and ensures that both clinical and patient-centered aspects are taken into account. Ultimately, the team’s shared goal is to advance knowledge in sports medicine and cardiology, translate findings into practice, and contribute to improving patient care and outcomes.

Cardiac REhabilitation COhort at the Medicine Campus DaVos to invEstigate Recovery
RECOVER – a prospective cohort study dedicated to advancing cardiac rehabilitation. The study aims to include more than 1,000 patients annually, collecting high-quality data on clinical outcomes, biomarkers, imaging, environmental factors, and more.
Sports Cardiology – Zurich x Davos
Bridging athletic performance and cardiac health
An inter-institutional collaboration with the University Hospital Zurich. Combining cardiology, exercise physiology and sports science to optimise cardiovascular health, performance and safe return-to-sport strategies in elite and recreational athletes.
ORCCA Europe
Outcome Registry for Cardiac Conditions in Athletes
The ORCCA study tracks outcomes in athletes with cardiac conditions at risk for sudden death. By following SwissSki and other professional athletes, we generate robust data to improve shared decision-making, safety, activity levels and quality of life.
TRACE
Troponin-Related Antibody Complexes in Athletes
TRACE is a prospective observational cohort study designed to advance evidence-based decision-making in sports cardiology. Its aim is to determine the prevalence of macro-troponin in athletes and to asses whether it varies across race distances, race performance and sex.

PD Dr. med. David Niederseer, lecturer at the Department of Health Science and Technology, ETH Zurich, offers supervision for a variety of thesis topics. Even if you have not yet identified a specific project, he can provide a selection of ongoing research initiatives that would benefit from the dedication of motivated students.
